Meet James Pickle
James started his sports career as a cross-country and track runner for Maranacook Community School in the early 1990’s. AS part of a team, which won 5 State Class C championship titles, and went 93-0 during this time, James ascended to 2nd in the State for the 1600 meter track event, and 3rd in the State for Cross country.
James_1.jpg During his Junior Year at Maranacook, James became the guild president for the Maine Youth Apprenticeship Program and attended classes every other day at Maranacook, as well as training as a Physical Therapist Assistant at Kennebec Valley Medical Center. During the 2 years of this program, James began to develop the skills and desire to further his education as a physical therapist.

After turning down multiple running scholarships to colleges throughout the country, James began his professional training as a physical therapist at Husson College in Bangor, Maine and graduated Cum Laude in May 2001 with a Master’s of Science in Physical Therapy with a minor in Psychology. His Master’s degree thesis was on The Effects of Therapeutic Horseback riding with Children with Cerebal Palsy. He also performed clinical education through MaineGeneral Medical Center, HealthSouth in Bangor, and Togus Veteran’s Administration. Through these clinical experiences, James began to specialize in advanced spinal mobilization and treatment, Workplace Ergonomics, and the treatment of chronic pain syndromes as associated with post tramatic stress syndrome.

Following college, James began practicing at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine as a licensed Physical Therapist, and was quickly acknowledged as an outpatient spinal rehabilitation specialist within the community. He also assisted in the implementation of St. Mary’s required Back School for all employees to reduce the worker injury rate within the facility.

Following his dreams to assist athletes and develop his Sports Medicine expertise, James began employment at Maine Physical Therapy in Augusta, which was located within the Gold’s Gym on the Leighton Road. While building his expertise, he became concerned with the trend of Physical Therapists treating multiple patients at a time, the use of ancillary staff to improve productivity, and the lack of patient compassion which he had observed throughout his career and clinical affiliations.

In October 2003, James decided there was a better way to treat patients, with improved compassion, individuality, and patient centered care. He opened Prospect Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in Manchester, and has developed the practice to what it is today.
